Julie Lea is currently performing to critical acclaim the role of Maria in the spectacular outdoor production of WEST SIDE STORY on SYDNEY HARBOUR!


Julie Lea is thrilled to be working for our national opera company,  This season she features as Maria in a spectacular outdoor production of West Side Story on Sydney Harbour.  She revisits the role of Musetta in La Boheme as well as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro.  She will sing Madama Cortese in Il Viaggio a Reims in both Sydney and Melbourne as well as portray Wendy Whitely in a new production about the famous Australian painter Brett Whitely


Last year Julie Lea tore up the stage as Musetta in a new production of La Boheme in Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour.  She visited Tokyo for a special Music Theatre concert for Dr Handa and performed in a contemporary opera Metamorphosis in the role of Greta, as well as performing the beautiful role of Hannah Glavari in The Merry Widow.  

Last year she starred in Two Weddings, One Bride (Girofle/Girofla), La Boheme (Musetta) as well as Parsifal (Flower Mainden). 

During 2015 and 2016 Julie was a member of the Moffat Oxenbould Young Artist Program in which she performed Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Voce del Ciel in Don Carlo, Musetta in La Boheme and Princess Ninetta in The Love for Three Oranges all at the Sydney Opera House. As well as being part of the Melbourne Ring Cycle performing the "wood bird" in Siegfried

Starring Anthony Warlow, the evening featured beloved songs from stage musicals and opera, as well as a touch of jazz.  Conducted by Guy Noble.

Julie was delighted to perform in concert with maestro Guy Noble and trumpet extraordinaire James Morrison in Melbourne, 2013.



Throughout 2012 Julie Lea toured Australia performing the role of Grace in the much loved musical Annie.


She was thrilled to star along side music theatre greats Anthony Warlow, Nancy Hayes, Todd McKenny and Chloe Dallimore as well as radio legend Alan Jones. Julie was nominated for a Green Room Award for this role.
